Alex & Charlie’s appeal for the Forgotten Children of Syria

Alex and Charlie are walking 100km in 24 hours for Syria Relief because the children of Syria need help

ON 12TH JULY, CHARLIE AND ALEX COMPLETED THEIR 100KM WALK IN 23 HOURS AND 38 MINUTES!

This is an appeal to your heart as much as your head. You will be aware the situation in Syria is deteriorating daily. Eleven million people – half the population – have been displaced, an estimated 70% of housing is uninhabitable, thousands of schools have closed. Accurate casualty figures are increasingly hard to establish, but few dispute at least a quarter of a million people have died since 2011. These are circumstances John Kerry has described as “one of the worst tragedies any of us has seen on this planet.”

Through this appeal we are hoping to raise sufficient funds to build two schools in northern Syria and run them for three years. This is an ambitious project. Each school will cost roughly £10,000 to establish and a further £100,000 to run over three years. Our contribution is to try to walk 100km in 24 hours along ‘The Ridgeway’ on the 11 July and to match fund £50,000 of donations.

The funds raised will be disbursed through Syria Relief, which already runs 40 schools within the country. Syria Relief has assured us that every pound you give will go directly to the building and running of the schools. You may be familiar with Syria Relief through the work of Mr David Nott, the eminent surgeon.

We hope you will take this opportunity to help the forgotten children of Syria. They have few other places to turn.
